Stainless Steel 440C is a highly durable and resistant carbon martensitic stainless steel. It includes 16-18% chromium, 0.95-1.20% carbon, 1% manganese, 0.60% silicon, and traces of phosphorus and sulfur. It provides tensile strength of 758-1100 MPa, yield strength of 450-900 MPa and heat-treated strength of 58-60 HRC. It has lower corrosion resistance than other stainless steels but is suitable for applications requiring high strength and resistance, such as bearings, valves and surgical instruments.
